A Trust Manifesto for data-sharing ecosystems
At the Trust in the Spotlight workshop (Pre-ECIS 2026, Università Bocconi, Milan, 13 June 2026), TruPASS researchers and colleagues from nine universities agreed on shared principles for trustworthy data sharing. They are a living agenda, open to refinement by research and practice.
- A system built to be trustworthy is not automatically trusted: look at both the design and how it is really used.
- Judge trust and control by what they deliver, and build control that empowers rather than blocks.
- Trust and control are not opposites. Balance them deliberately and recalibrate over time.
- Trust is a property of the whole ecosystem, not just a bond between two parties.
- Trust should be calibrated, not maximised, with thresholds made explicit and open to challenge.
- What started in Milan is a beginning: an invitation to shape the future of data-sharing ecosystems together.
